Ireland. Music. Books. Culture.

Here, in no particular order, are links to organizations, bands and publications that I like, and that you might, too.

One of the best rock bands to ever come out of Ireland, period. And probably the loudest.

The Irish Independent

After more than 100 years, still Ireland’s best newspaper.

The Irish Echo

The oldest, and best, Irish-American newspaper.

Irish Central

More American and world news, with an Irish perspective.

The Clare Library

County Clare is known as the epicenter of Irish traditional music. The library’s archives include transcriptions of jigs, reels, hornpipes and more, with sound files, as well as a wealth of videos dating back to the 1960s and featuring legends such as Paddy Canny, Martin Hayes, and Micho Russell.

Ceol Alainn

Years ago this guy started finding ultra-rare Irish trad LPs and putting them online for downloading, as well as rare videos and other cool stuff. You can read about them here, and then follow the link to another site to download them. There is a lifetime of wonderful music here, and all for free.

There are a lot of folks who help abused and neglected animals. These are my favorite.

North Texas Basset Rescue

Basset hounds are just cool. And these people do excellent work for the ones that have been hurt and abused in our area. Aaaarrroooo!

Ossian USA

If you love Irish music, Charlie and Mary Lou can help you get it quickly and easily. They know their stuff, and they have a big selection of music, DVDs, and books.

Social Distortion

The best punk/roots band on the planet. Accept no substitutes.
